This Must Be How Marilyn Munroe Felt..

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Marilyn Munroe. The beautifull woman who paved the way for strong, independent women around the world. I did not start to appreciate the wise words of Marilyn until i was at least 21, thus being the time i needed to hear them the most. We all have our struggles as independent woman – even Marilyn Munroe. Unfortunately, although Marilyn was wise she succomed to the enemy within all women “insecurity”, a troubled mind leads to distruction. In her case death. She battled addiction, health and relationship issues which imcluded three divorces and died of an overdose at age 36 in 1962.

As a woman i too have that need to be respected, that urge to succeed, that anxiety that comes from expectations and dissapointment from failing to the joy of men. I cant help but think “this must have been how Marilyn Munroe felt”

We need to always remember “that we CAN do anything” and “though we may be beautifull; underneath the makeup, perfectly positioned hair and 6inch heels we ARE intelligent”. We are Superwoman.

I will forever be in her debt for teaching me courage and strength through her words. xx

A simple quote spoken by a wise woman could lift your spirits; as it does mine. Below are my favorites.

“Well behaved women rarely make history”

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”

“I don’t mind living in a man’s world, as long as I can be a woman in it.”

“I don’t want to be rich, I just want to be loved.”

“A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left”

“I restore myself when I’m alone.”

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they’re right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself. And sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together”

Music Therapy

We all have that song that makes us stop and think about love, life and everything in between, well Drakes -Marvins Room will always be “that song” for me. The dark sound, soul deep lyrics, melody and phone coversation gets me everytime. I remember when Marvins Room was released, i had spent the night alone which like other lonely nights resulted in me listening to Drake’s “i feel your pain” music. I listened to this song and before the chorus even started i was in tears. The lyrical articulation that is put into Marvins Room is incredible; they way one can describe the feeling of having everybody around but having no-one there is something that hits hard. The undenying need that he has for this Woman, the desperate phone conversation and faded love story all come together to create a dark and lonely song.

Perfectly collaberated lines that hit a womans heart and make her stop and think – are these lyrics about me? Should i be here? Why am i alone? are the reasons why this became a youtube remake hit with stars such as Chris Brown, Teyanna Taylor, Joelle James, Lil Wayne and JoJo all Covering the song. This makes it apparent that we all were touched in some way by Sound and Lyrics. With killer lines like these:

“Talk to me please, don’t have much to believe in, I need you right now, are you down to listen to me?”

“I’m just sayin’ you could do better
Tell me have you heard that lately?”

“I’m lucky that you picked up
Lucky that you stayed on
I need someone to put this weight on”

So in those times of need I suggest you mellow out with the sweet sound of your favorite songs, when there’s no one around the words spoken by a stranger can change your life.

Transformation Vs Change

…But that is not the point. Where have you lost your truth? Where have you lost your being? Where have you lost your God? Where have you lost your happiness, your bliss? Better it will be before you go to the infinte maze of the outside world, better it will be to first look within. If you cannot find there then it is all right — you go and search outside. But that has never happened. Whoever has looked within has always found — because it is already there — only a look is needed, a conversion, a returning of consciousness. Just a deep look.”

Rihanna – Rude Boy Shorts

Hey guys. I have received alot of interest in my remake of the “Rude Boy Rasta Shorts”

So basically, I can’t sew naturally luckily its not something you need to be taught its really about logic.

What you will need is the following:

- One Pair of High wasted Shorts. Whether they be Bike Shorts, Jean shorts, High wasted Briefs; its up to you. So long as you can sew on them.

- A sewing Machine (you cannot hand sew this)

– Cotton (of Course)

- About 20cms of Velcro (both sides)

- Curtain/Material Trim. In Green, Red, and Yellow.

Please note: I couldn’t find any of these colors in my City. So I purchased White trim and Dyed them with Material Dye. BUT. If you do this remember Normal cold wash dye wont take to Polyester. You will need the natural dye that is suitable for polyester.

From here it’s back to logic. The Material comes in strips so you just sew the top of the material all the way around the shorts. From Top to Bottom. I used 2 strips of each color leaving approx 2 inches between the sewing to cover gaps. If you have a zip on your shorts… stop sewing at the point of the zip or button etc here is where you use the Velcro. When you finish the sew leave almost like a flap about 10 Cm’s in length so you can open and close your Shorts. Cut a piece of Velcro and sew it to the other side of the short and the one on the Trim then you can open and close this when you need to and it fits with the rest of the outfit. (Rather than having a gap where your zip is)

These are not the best instructions however this is just how I made mine. =) Good Luck… please check out pics below. Feel free to comment if you having any questions.

Lust vs Love

I see so many people completely confused between the two. Love is the most abused word in the dictionary. Lust can cause confusion and destruction in all of our lives. All the time I hear people say, “I am in love.” When in reality, it is not love at all. Sometimes it’s infatuation. Other times it’s nothing more than raw lust. There are times I want to say “Don’t call it love because it’s not!” don’t say I love you because you don’t!

So really think with me… Although love is not the easiest to determine we all learn something in our years of existence right? Id love to help clear up a lot of confusion and save you from a lot of pain but, to be honest if you tell yourself your in love then eventually you will talk yourself out of denying that it quite possibly isn’t? For peace of mind we all must reevaluate.. Which leads me to this – Definition of Lust.

Lust literally means over desire.
So what is lust? It is when you take something that is good, twist it, and add awesome stuff to it until you are consumed with what you want to have. When we speak of lust as it relates to relationships with the opposite sex, it can be put this way – when a person’s body or presence is far more important than their soul.

A good Definition I’ve heard is this:

“Lust is selfishly dwelling on and fantasizing about sexual activities or entertaining sexually arousing thoughts with disregard of the other person’s feelings. Love doesn’t lust.”

Lust…

Is nothing like love
Comes quickly and leaves quickly.
Only wants to get into bed with you.
Is a craving for self gratification, usually sexual.
Focuses only on the outward appearance.
Is impatient.
Is rude and manipulates.
Seeks to get and never give.
Self-centered.
Doesn’t care about others.
Is jealous and insecure.
Seeks revenge and doesn’t forgive.
Covers up and lies about wrongdoings.
Will do whatever it wants to get its way.
Leaves when it’s no longer getting.

Every person who has ever dated or lived has struggled with lust. If you haven’t yet, you will. So il leave you with this.

Have you ever thought you loved someone but realized it was only lust?

We live and we learn.

Girls Winery Tour

The past week has been one of THE most tiring weeks of my life, I had a work conference in Makoura Lodge – “Destination unknown” somewhere in the hills, over some rivers and out of range of telecommunications even my iphone4s was completely useless. Full day meetings, and late nights results a tired grumpy girl.

I returned thursday evening and Friday afternoon i was packing my bags yet again for a weekend away in Napier with the girls. This; i was weary of. I have never been to Napier for more than a day. We arrived Friday evening after a late night mish to get some wine, illegally parking in a Disabled car park and sprinting through an almost closed supermarket. Saturday morning dawned and it was beautiful! with the sun streaming through the beachfront home we rented, bacon cooking on the oven and champagne gleaming through the glasses on the dinning table.

The day consisted of Wine tasting, nails, shopping, a tour on a boat/some sort of bus thing and foood. Fooooood! we visited a cafe which unfortunately will remain as “the unnamed cafe” because i was too excited eat and see the amazing Pioneer CDJ 850 Deck with Red Disk plates… so excited all i wanted to do was drink bear and play some tunes however being the classy girl that i am – i ate first, than drunk my beer THEN had a quick pic with the decks. Unfortunately my desire to be a Female DJ in an allyway cafe may have made us slightly late for our tour (maybe?) but, i was most definitely satisfied with my self :-)

Later that night, drinks and dancing. After much debate we agreed on vodka and wine – bad decision. My friend who will remain unnamed fell into a sleep deprived coma all thanks to good old Smirnoff red label anyway, off we went to town for a taste of the Napier night life. The Gintrap, Shed2 and The Thirsty Whale were our destinations but shed2 supplied most of the entertainment for the night. Nice wee nightlife i must say. Although the sense of style was a 5 out of 20 but, we had fun. No real dramas other than being accused of being a lesbian which i gladly accepted, woman are beautiful and im happy to represent! ;-P.

We didnt really make any friends there however they were definitely glad to see us leave – jumped in the cab and everyone is yelling “Goodbye Rihanna” extremely weird but apparently i look like her .. Must be the Hair. The next day was home time which = sleeeeeeeep. Nothing crazy happend here but it was nice to get away.

Napier was awesome! Thankyou to my friend Neish for organizing – its officially in my top 10 places to be New Zealand. Number one being my home – Wellington – i miss you.
